Love and Forgiveness
Spiritual Suicide/Puppy Dogs and Cupcakes
Monday: the rain was appropriate. For many reasons. I heard the schizophrenic weather pattern that winter offers the islands was ready to make its move. It came quick. It was harsh at times and I wondered if I needed to set up the emergency flood gates which consist of towels lined against the front door and the small ledge that separates our lanai from our living room. An effective wall indeed.
Maybe it was appropriate because the grey skies that preceded the onslaught of rain mirrored the way I felt and the less-than-enjoyable conversation I had with my wife before…
Why I Hate Religion, But Love Santa Claus
What if I told you, I, too, hate your religion?
To be happy, passionate, and prosperous and help others is my only mission
I really enjoyed your video, but if I may be so bold
You’re still waxing poetic about the greatest story ever told
Christmas just passed, holiday parties were ragin’
What if I told you, Christmas was originally pagan
Would you get upset or angry, what other emotions would it bring
How would you feel if I told you Jesus was really born in the spring
Republicans and Democrats are really the same
Like leaders…
Hawaii Nei
I had a great afternoon date with a hot chick today. Please don’t tell my wife. Diane’s a Jedi and works anything blade-related like a Samurai Warrior of yesteryear. And she’s Italian; which means she’s not afraid to cut somebody. Just ask her.
My sexy date and I had lunch in Honolulu and then watched, The Descendants, starring George Clooney. I remember when it was being filmed here on Oahu a couple years ago. I thought it was going to be a dark comedy. I was only half right. There were a couple comedic moments, but mostly it was just…
A Silver Lining
Unless you live under a bridge and have zero communication with the rest of the world, you know that a couple of weeks ago, Haiti suffered a tragic earthquake that killed an estimated 100,000 + and left thousands, if not millions, of its citizens without a home.
I’ve seen many op-eds, news reports and protests that governments around the world didn’t respond quickly enough to the disaster. There have been many posts on social networking sites condemning those who speak out against Haiti or have chosen not to donate money or resources to Haiti.
One of my favorite quotes is…
Be About It! Radio Episode 23: Osama Bin Lovin’
Wow! There are a lot of things happening in our world these days. With the recent killing of Osama Bin Laden, people throughout the world are asking the question:
What’s next?
More war? More hate? More of the same?
On this episode of Be About It! Radio (Joey’s last episode as he embarks on a six month journey across the U.S.), Keala, Joey and Paul talk about a controversial subject; one that most, if any, media outlets won’t discuss. Even though this phenomenon may be the answer the world is looking for.
Insanity: doing…
A Hui Hou Compassionate Samurai
On April 7th, our world lost a great leader. A man I never met before, yet whose influence impacted me and thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of lives across the world. He was the author of The Compassionate Samurai, former PSI Seminars Basic Instructor and Founder of Klemmer and Associates. His name was Brian Klemmer and he will be missed.
Here’s what Lance Giroux, Founder and Managing Director of Leadership Training and Consulting company, Allied Ronin, and fellow Samurai had to say about his long-time friend Brian Klemmer…
Thursday, April 7,…
So in Love with You!
As I sit here, waiting to have coffee with my good friend Taimane, memories of this past week flooded my thoughts and brought a teary smile to my face.
I thought about having dinner Monday night with my good friends, Seamus and Tina Murphy. We had a great time laughing and talking about our different projects and sharing ideas about how to get them out to the world. Seamus and Tina developed an amazing game called, What Do You Want?. I had the privilege of watching this game evolve and participating in it’s creation. It’s been quite a…
Lessons From My Lanai: Chapter 1
We are a curious sort, purveyors of injustice, what we call justice, beauty and scorn. Or maybe we’re spectators. Probably both. Judgment cleanses our need to be right and our words can cut each other swifter than the sharpest sword. I’ve got a sharp sword because I was blessed with a big mouth. And I’ve used it to cut people to ribbons. Especially me. And her.
As my sword swung toward her, she didn’t even wince; standing there, accepting the cut, letting blood pour from her wounds. Perhaps she can take it, knowing that as quickly as the wound was…
Through Titan’s Eyes
As far as we can guess, our pit bull Titan is about 11 years old. When we first got him, the organization that had rescued him from certain death estimated his age at 1 year old. That was in the summer of 2004. Along with our vet, we figured that he was probably about 4 when we got him due to his current condition of cataracts and stiff and crackly hips.
About six months ago, Titan was pretty ill. One evening, I laid down next to him on the bed and cuddled with him. He likes to cuddle. I could…
In Memory of a Great Man – John Wooden
This past week, humanity lost one of its finest men – John Wooden. Tony Robbins wrote a great story about this legendary coach. This is what he said:
Legendary UCLA Basketball Coach John Wooden died Friday at the age of 99. He was not only the most successful college basketball coach in history (winning 10 out of 12 NCCA National Championships, at one point winning 88 games in a row!) but more importantly to me, Coach Wooden was one of the finest human beings I ever knew. I met him and interviewed him for the first time almost 20 years…
