Haterade
It was another gorgeous morning in Waikiki. The sun was brightly shining with a fairly strong breeze blowing down the street and into my home/office/compound/magic-making headquarters. After filling a cup with my morning brew, I sat down to get some work done. I was delighted to see an email from an adoring fan in my inbox. I always am. There’s no better way to start the day than by reading how something I wrote impacted a person (all kidding aside, receiving those messages is an awesome gift).
While reading the email some words popped out at me; like “moron,” “fool,”…
A Hearty Thanks!
As I welcome in 2012, say goodbye to the holidays while wondering why my pants are slightly tighter than they were a couple weeks ago, I want to to say thank you to all my friends and supporters. I often receive messages on Facebook, Twitter, through my website and email thanking me for my posts and books. I am thankful to all of you that take time from your day to shine such kindness toward me. It means more than words can say. I want to remind all of you (and myself) of a few things:
- You inspire someone

My Birthday… A Year in Review
Another year older and hopefully wiser. I don’t feel older and guess I don’t feel thirty-nine; however I’m not sure what it’s “supposed” to feel like so maybe I do after all.
When I was I child, I thought thirty-nine was old. At that age, my father had three children, one of which was leaving for college, one in elementary school and me, one year away from Kindergarten. He was busy; working sixteen hour swing-shifts at B.F. Goodrich and running a busy tax service during tax season. From my viewpoint, he seemed awfully mature.
Of course,…
A Hui Hou Compassionate Samurai
On April 7th, our world lost a great leader. A man I never met before, yet whose influence impacted me and thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of lives across the world. He was the author of The Compassionate Samurai, former PSI Seminars Basic Instructor and Founder of Klemmer and Associates. His name was Brian Klemmer and he will be missed.
Here’s what Lance Giroux, Founder and Managing Director of Leadership Training and Consulting company, Allied Ronin, and fellow Samurai had to say about his long-time friend Brian Klemmer…

Be About It! Radio Episode 21: Be vs. Know…What Drives Me?
It is not what we KNOW that best defines us. Rather, it is how we BE that allows us to operate from and express our essence to the world. This essence is the purest form of ourselves; how we entered this existence. From our essence we are able to utilize the power of our emotions instead of being at their mercy. In so doing, we become true leaders of self and are best able to live our life in line with how we entered: powerful, loving, creative, compassionate, brilliant, unique and limitless.
When we choose…
Stop and Look Up
When I was a child, I remember times when the date was mentioned on TV or I looked at a calendar and would think, “Wow! This day will never happen again.” For some reason, it always astonished me. I often wondered if I was the only one who noticed.
Those memories occurred to me last week as I was walking home from the coffee shop across the street. It was a beautiful sunny day in Waikiki, which has become so “normal” I often take it for granted. I stopped on the sidewalk, looked up at the beautiful blue sky and…
You’re FIRED!!!
Who am I talking about? The fucking committee living inside my head. I’m done with them. For good. Yeah, I’m talking to you. Get the fuck out of my head! NOW!!!
Okay, back to writing. Yeah, I know they probably aren’t gone for good; but it feels great anyway. Sometimes, I have to take back control of the castle. You feel me?
How about you? Do you ever get to the point where you just have to let go of that constant nagging in your head? If you’re answer is no… stop reading now and go…
So in Love with You!
As I sit here, waiting to have coffee with my good friend Taimane, memories of this past week flooded my thoughts and brought a teary smile to my face.
I thought about having dinner Monday night with my good friends, Seamus and Tina Murphy. We had a great time laughing and talking about our different projects and sharing ideas about how to get them out to the world. Seamus and Tina developed an amazing game called, What Do You Want?. I had the privilege of watching this game evolve and participating in it’s creation. It’s been quite a…
Lessons From My Lanai: Chapter 1
We are a curious sort, purveyors of injustice, what we call justice, beauty and scorn. Or maybe we’re spectators. Probably both. Judgment cleanses our need to be right and our words can cut each other swifter than the sharpest sword. I’ve got a sharp sword because I was blessed with a big mouth. And I’ve used it to cut people to ribbons. Especially me. And her.
As my sword swung toward her, she didn’t even wince; standing there, accepting the cut, letting blood pour from her wounds. Perhaps she can take it, knowing that as quickly as the wound was…
Through Titan’s Eyes
As far as we can guess, our pit bull Titan is about 11 years old. When we first got him, the organization that had rescued him from certain death estimated his age at 1 year old. That was in the summer of 2004. Along with our vet, we figured that he was probably about 4 when we got him due to his current condition of cataracts and stiff and crackly hips.
About six months ago, Titan was pretty ill. One evening, I laid down next to him on the bed and cuddled with him. He likes to cuddle. I could…
